The House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the Constitution says it has commenced the consideration of the revised State Police Service bill, proposed by the executive.

He said the bill which seeks to alter the Constitution to establish the service was very similar to the one already considered by the House.

He explained that the new executive bill contained minor alterations to enhance clarity and operation of the service when established.

“The House and the Senate are working in tandem with each other to make sure that the significant amendments are achieved.

“The focus of today’s gathering is for us to consider this executive bill clause by clause and make appropriate recommendations to the house, but we must note also that the Senate had already considered and adopted the executive bill.

“It is substantially similar to what we have done, with a little adjustment here and there, so it is not going to be something so significantly different from the work we had already done.

“The amendment introduces Section 318, which addresses interpretation, transitional provisions, and other measures to facilitate the operationalization of the state police framework, alongside consequential and incidental amendments.

“We will also see what the Senate had introduced, some eight minor clauses on syntax namely clauses 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22 and 23 just some little adjustments,” he said.

He urged members to adopt where applicable, what the Senate had already passed if they so wished for us to make progress.
