The Plateau Executive Council has approved the establishment of a new Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Joyce Ramnap, made the disclosure shortly after the council’s meeting on Thursday in Jos.

Ramnap, who said that the meeting was presided over by Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, described the feat as a strategic move to strengthen government interventions for vulnerable citizens.

She added that the new ministry would enhance the Plateau’s capacity to respond effectively to humanitarian emergencies and poverty-related challenges.

“The ministry is expected to incorporate the activities of the Plateau Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Trauma Centre.

‘’This will create a more coordinated and efficient approach to humanitarian response and support for vulnerable communities.

“It will also strengthen collaboration between Plateau and the federal government on humanitarian and poverty-reduction programmes.

“Also, it will ensure that all interventions get to the citizens of the state,” she said.

Ramnap also disclosed that the council approved the renovation of the administrative buildings of the Jos Main Market and the Satellite Market.

The commissioner said that the renovation would improve operational efficiency, functionality, and overall management of the markets.
