A United States-based Nigerian jeweler, Shade Yusuf, popularly known as SSGoldJeweler, has publicly accused Nigerian House of Representatives aspirant Olalekan Adeleke Shogbesan, aka “Ojasope,” of failing to pay an alleged $5,200 debt arising from a 2022 gold jewelry transaction.

Yusuf alleges that Shogbesan purchased gold chains from her in July 2022 and promised to settle the bill within two weeks. She claims that despite repeated demands over the past four years, the alleged debt remains unpaid. She also says she later requested the return of the jewellery, but alleges that Shogbesan declined.

According to Yusuf, the dispute became more complicated after Shogbesan allegedly left the United States for Nigeria without settling the outstanding bill. She further claims that he subsequently promised during a recent social media broadcast to pay the debt by July 2026, but allegedly stopped responding to her afterward.

The allegations remain claims by Yusuf and have not been independently established in the material provided. Efforts reportedly made to obtain Shogbesan’s response were unsuccessful, with his Nigerian telephone line said to have been switched off.

The controversy raises a straightforward question, particularly given Shogbesan’s reported political ambitions: Will he publicly address the allegation and provide his own account of the disputed transaction? For any aspiring public office holder, transparency over a relatively small commercial dispute can matter because questions of credibility often extend beyond the amount involved.
