A 200-level political science student of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAUM), Rose Adikwu, has been hospitalized in Makurdi after she was allegedly scalded with a hot mixture during a disagreement with her cousin and co-tenant, Agbo Felicia.
Felicia, a 500-level chemistry student, was arrested by the police following the incident, which occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026.
According to Adikwu, the disagreement between her and Felicia had lasted for some time and worsened over personal matters, eventually prompting her to ask Felicia to leave their apartment.
She alleged that after packing her belongings, Felicia went to a neighbor’s room, boiled water, and mixed it with pepper, salt, onions and seasoning before returning and pouring the hot mixture on her. Felicia allegedly locked the door and left her inside as she cried for help.
Neighbors reportedly heard her cries and intervened and rescued her, while Felicia was intercepted as she attempted to leave the area. Adikwu was subsequently taken to a private hospital, where she is receiving treatment for severe burns.
Benue State Police spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the incident and arrest, saying preliminary information showed that the two students lived together before the disagreement. He said an investigation was ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
