Senegal and The Gambia have taken steps to operationalise their digital cooperation following a working visit by Senegal’s Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Samba Diouf, to Banjul.
The visit focused on implementing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries covering telecommunications and digital development. Discussions were held with Diouf’s Gambian counterpart and technical teams from both countries to review the implementation roadmap and identify initial priorities for putting the agreement into action.
The two sides agreed to adopt a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to the cooperation, with various initiatives to be advanced according to their level of readiness and the priorities identified by both countries.
Key areas discussed included connectivity, cybersecurity, capacity building and digital transformation. The cooperation is expected to strengthen collaboration between Senegal and The Gambia as both countries work to expand digital infrastructure and capabilities.
The working visit marks another step in efforts by Senegal and The Gambia to translate their digital partnership into concrete programmes aimed at improving telecommunications and digital services for citizens in both countries.
