Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed a four-point framework for building a new security architecture in the Middle East based on common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.
‎
‎Xi made the proposal during talks with Egyptian President Abdel El-Sisi in Cairo on Wednesday.
‎
‎He said regional countries should remain masters of their own affairs, reject external interference and strengthen dialogue on peace and security.
‎
‎Xi called for exploring a new regional security architecture and strengthening the internal driving force for common security.
‎
‎He also urged a comprehensive approach to addressing the region’s interconnected conflicts, stressing that the Palestinian issue remained at the core of the Middle East question.
‎
‎Xi said lasting peace and stability fundamentally depend on development, urging stronger development cooperation and efforts to eliminate the root causes of conflicts.
‎
‎China, he said, was ready to work with Middle Eastern countries to safeguard international shipping lanes, promote development cooperation, strengthen mutual interests and gradually build mutual trust.
‎
‎Xi also called for stronger international coordination, with the UN Charter and international law serving as fundamental principles for addressing Middle East affairs.
‎
‎He urged the international community, particularly external powers, to abandon double standards, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional countries and support the UN’s role in Middle East affairs.
‎
‎Sisi said Egypt appreciated China’s consistent, objective and impartial position on the Middle East, adding that Cairo remained committed to de-escalation and resolving conflicts through political means.
‎
‎Egypt, he said, was ready to strengthen coordination with China to ease regional tensions, safeguard stability and explore a regional security architecture.
