Emir of Gumel, Ahmed Muhammad, dies at 84

The Jigawa State Government has announced the death of the Emir of Gumel Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad-Sani, aged 84, following a protracted illness.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, who announced the development to journalists in Dutse said the emir passed away on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.

“The Jigawa State Government regrets to announce with profound sorrow the passing of His Highness, the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani, CON.

“Born on December 12, 1942, the revered monarch passed away this afternoon in Cairo, Egypt, after a protracted illness.

“Throughout his remarkable reign of 46 years, His Highness, who ascended the throne in 1980, dedicated his life to the betterment of his people,” Ibrahim said.

He explained that as the 16th Emir of Gumel, the late monarch was a beacon of wisdom, offering invaluable counsel and tirelessly working towards improving health outcomes, increasing school enrollment, and fostering peace and security across the state.

“His legacy of commitment to progress and community welfare will be deeply missed.

“The Jigawa State Government extends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Gumel Emirate, the state’s Council of Chiefs and all citizens during this period of immense grief,” he added.

According to him, details of funeral arrangements will be announced by the emir’s palace and communicated to the public in due course.
