The Osun Police Command has arrested a man, Taye Kasali, for allegedly killing his mother, Mrs Kudirat Kasali, in Bode-Osi, Ola Oluwa Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Osogbo.
Ojelabi said the remains of the deceased were recovered from a shallow grave on a family farm following investigations into her disappearance.
He said the incident was reported at the Bode-Osi Police Division on Sept. 1, after the deceased and her son were reported missing.
According to him, police operatives commenced investigation and arrested Kasali on Sept. 7, following intelligence gathered in connection with the case.
Ojelabi said the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to killing his mother on Aug. 31 by slitting her throat with a machete.
He said the suspect told investigators that his mother had been referring to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease out the family farmland, which he claimed was the family’s major source of livelihood.
The police spokesperson said the suspect led operatives to the farm, where the remains of the deceased were recovered from a shallow grave.
He added that the machete allegedly used in committing the crime was also recovered as an exhibit.
Ojelabi said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Zungura, had directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated and charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Zungura urged members of the public to promptly report cases of missing persons and suspicious activities to the police or other relevant security agencies.
