Air travellers in Nigeria faced thousands of flight delays in August, with domestic airlines recording 4,765 delayed flights and 36 cancellations during the month.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) disclosed this in its monthly summary of domestic airline flight disruptions released on Sunday via its official X handle.
According to the regulator, 15 domestic airlines operated a combined 7,961 flights during the month, with a significant number failing to depart on schedule.
Air Peace operated the highest number of flights at 1,864 and recorded 1,330 delays, representing 71.4 per cent of its operations
United Nigeria Airlines recorded the highest delay rate among the carriers. Of its 1,231 flights during the month, 943 were delayed.
The airline also recorded eight cancellations, the highest number among the carriers listed by the NCAA.
Enugu Air followed with 582 delays out of 878 flights and four cancellations.
The NCAA said 2,801 of the delayed flights were held up for between 16 minutes and one hour, while 1,322 experienced delays lasting between one and two hours.
Another 407 flights were delayed for between two and three hours, while 235 were delayed for three hours or more.
Air Peace accounted for 108 of the longest delays, while Enugu Air recorded 46 and United Nigeria 41.
Meanwhile, Umza Air recorded the best performance among the airlines listed by the regulator, with 52 delays out of 403 flights and no cancellations.
Xe Jet followed with 40 delays from 127 flights.
The NCAA also reported that Aero recorded 246 delays from 469 flights, Arik had 188 delays from 301 flights, while Ibom Air recorded 254 delays from 560 flights.
Max Air recorded 204 delays from 336 flights, Rano Air had 216 from 503 flights, and Value Jet recorded 435 delays from 767 flights.
Green Africa had 114 delays from 226 flights, Overland recorded 139 from 239, while Binani had 22 delays from 57 flights.
NG Eagle recorded no flight operations during the period, according to the NCAA.
