Sheffield-based Nigerian musician Abiola performed at the Àșà Day Yoruba Community Festival in Sheffield on Saturday, 29 August 2026, as the annual celebration brought together members of the community and guests to celebrate Yoruba heritage, culture, language, and music.
The vocalist, Abiola was among the artists who performed at this year’s Àșà Day Yoruba Community Festival, organised by the Yoruba Community Sheffield.
The festival took place on Saturday, 29 August 2026, in Sheffield, providing a platform for the celebration of Yoruba cultural identity through language, music, heritage, and community.
The festival attracted members of the Yoruba community and the wider public, alongside invited guests including civic representatives, traditional leadership, business figures, friends, and lovers of Yoruba culture.
Abiola took to the stage as a live vocalist, performing two Nigerian songs: ‘Laye’ by Kizz Daniel and ‘Everyday’ by Fireboy. His performance brought contemporary Nigerian popular music into a festival programme centered on the celebration and promotion of Yoruba heritage and culture.
Performing at Àșà Day forms part of his continuing musical activities in Sheffield and across the United Kingdom. Abiola’s artistic practice focuses on African music, combining African musical influences and traditions with contemporary sounds and soulful vocal expression.
The musical performance also shows Abiola’s passion for cultural and community events in the UK, where he continues to develop his profile as a live performer while engaging broader audiences through African music and cultural expression.
Abiola is also a member of the Groove Chorus, a Sheffield-based choir, where he performs alongside other vocalists and continues to develop his experience in ensemble and live performance. His wider musical activities include solo performances, cultural events, and community-based performances.
Àșà Day created a platform for Abiola to connect his contemporary musical practice with a celebration of his cultural heritage while contributing to the cultural life of Sheffield’s diverse community.
Following his Àșà Day appearance, Abiola is continuing his programme of live performances in the UK, with more appearances scheduled at cultural and professional events, including Champions Connect 2026 in Birmingham and a forthcoming Black History Month event organised by the Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union President.
His performance at Àșà Day adds another documented live appearance to his developing portfolio of musical activity in the United Kingdom.
