Manchester United have been handed a fresh injury concern after Patrick Dorgu was forced off during Denmark’s 2-0 Nations League victory over Wales and subsequently released from international duty.
The 21-year-old started for Denmark but lasted only about 30 minutes before leaving the pitch with an injury. Denmark coach Brian Riemer later confirmed that Dorgu would return to Manchester and that another player would be called into the squad in his place.
Dorgu appeared to be holding the back of his left thigh before going off, raising concerns about a possible hamstring problem, although Manchester United have not yet announced the nature or severity of the injury.
There was more encouraging news regarding United captain Bruno Fernandes. Portugal coach Jorge Jesus said the midfielder was not risked in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Norway after playing through a fitness issue against Wales, but he is expected to be available for Thursday’s match against Denmark.
Fernandes played most of Portugal’s opening Nations League victory over Wales before being substituted late on. His planned return would ease concerns for United ahead of the resumption of the club season.
Joshua Zirkzee also returned to the Netherlands matchday squad for the first time since November 2024 during their 2-1 win over Serbia, although he remained an unused substitute. Leny Yoro, meanwhile, could make his senior France debut during the international break after receiving his first call-up.
United will now assess Dorgu after his return to Carrington, with his availability for the club’s next fixtures depending on the outcome of medical checks.
