An elderly Nigerian man, who identified himself as a former banker, has recounted how his wife allegedly left Nigeria for Canada with their four children while he remained behind, a development he said eventually left him stranded in both countries.

The man’s emotional account was captured in a video circulating on social media, where he narrated how his plans to relocate with his family fell apart after his wife and children travelled ahead of him.

According to him, he had resigned from his banking job when their permanent residency documents became available but was unable to travel at the same time as his family because the bank needed to audit his position.

He said his wife subsequently travelled to Canada with their four children while he remained in Nigeria to complete the process.

However, the situation reportedly took a different turn after his wife arrived in Canada, as he claimed she blocked him and refused to disclose the address where she and the children were staying.

The former banker said he eventually travelled to Canada in November 2014, hoping to reunite with his family, but was unable to locate them after arriving at Calgary International Airport, also known as YYC, in Alberta.

“I was stranded at the airport, which is YYC airport in Canada. That is Alberta, Calgary,” he recounted.

He explained that he had a return ticket to Nigeria because he still needed to attend to some matters at home.

Unable to find his wife and children, he eventually boarded a flight back to Nigeria.

However, returning home did not bring the relief he expected, as he said he also became stranded in the country.

The elderly man disclosed that he had made several attempts to reconcile with his wife since 2016, but she had remained unwilling.

He added that he could not force her to return to the marriage and had continued living without her companionship.

“Since that time, I have been like this. Apart from being a refugee, I have no companion for now,” he said.

His account has stirred emotions on social media, with many expressing sympathy over the years he has reportedly spent separated from his wife and four children.

The circumstances surrounding the separation and the wife’s account have not been independently established.
