Two suspected gunmen have reportedly died following an attack on the convoy of Rollins Nwali, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ezza South State Constituency seat in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon as Nwali and his team returned from Amazekewe community.

Security sources said the attackers, allegedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pump-action guns, opened fire on the convoy before security operatives evacuated the candidate and his aides to safety.

One suspect, identified as Jude Nwamgbada, was reportedly killed during an exchange of gunfire, while another was said to have died in hospital. The second death remains unconfirmed.

Sources alleged that the attackers were linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), although the claim has not been independently verified.

Confirming the incident on Facebook, Nwali said his Toyota Hilux was set ablaze, but no member of his team sustained injuries.

He commended security personnel for their intervention and expressed sympathy to the families of those who reportedly died.

Nwali urged youths to reject political violence, warning against allowing politicians to exploit them for personal ambitions.

He maintained that the attack would not deter him from pursuing his political ambition.
