The Presidential Campaign Council of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are plotting to discredit the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026, through fake news, artificial intelligence, deepfake videos and counterfeit documents.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, the council said the alleged plan was aimed at misleading the public and discrediting President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and APC leaders.
Alake said the alleged tactics had already been deployed in the last 24 hours, beginning with a photograph of a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna. He alleged that Atiku and the ADC “twisted the narrative” to claim the security agents were protecting APC billboards, and planted the story in a national newspaper. He added that Atiku later shared the report on his official social media handles.
The APC campaign council also alleged that a fake letter had been circulated online, purportedly written by Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claiming that N2.3 trillion was released by the Kaduna State Government to host the rally.
Alake described the claim as baseless, saying the amount exceeds Kaduna State’s annual budget for three years. He said the state’s combined budgets for 2024 (N458.271 billion), 2025 (N790.439 billion) and 2026 (N985.9 billion) are still less than N2.3 trillion.
He warned that the ADC and “Atiku’s hirelings” had also perfected plans to circulate old, doctored and deepfake videos during the rally to suggest public resentment.
“We hereby use this opportunity to alert the general public about this malicious and ignoble plan,” Alake said, urging Nigerians to be vigilant and reject what he called the machinations of Atiku and the ADC.
The statement also said Atiku and the ADC were incapable of winning any election and would “pull any strings” in their bid to grab power.
