The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa has adopted President Bola Tinubu as the Rainbow Coalition’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The coalition, led by the PDP in the state, also unveiled strategies to mobilise support for Tinubu and secure victory for PDP candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.

The decisions were taken at the party’s expanded 100th State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting in Yenagoa on Thursday.

The Bayelsa PDP Chairman, Chief George Turnah, said the coalition would intensify grassroots mobilisation to secure electoral support for its preferred candidates.

Turnah called on the Bayelsa  government to account for public funds allegedly spent on the state’s 30th anniversary celebration.

He said the government should publish a detailed breakdown of the expenditure and identify the approved budgetary provisions authorising the spending.

The PDP chairman said the anniversary is a significant milestone but should not justify lavish expenditure amid economic hardship and inadequate public services.

He cited rising poverty, high transportation costs, unaffordable housing, poor healthcare facilities and unreliable public water supply as concerns requiring urgent attention.

Turnah urged the Bayelsa House of Assembly to strengthen its oversight of public expenditure and ensure accountability in the management of state resources.

On healthcare, he questioned the impact of a reported $4,000,000 health grant and called for verifiable information on projects and services funded through it.

He further called for greater investment in education, affordable housing, mass transit and reliable public utilities to improve residents’ living conditions.

Turnah said the PDP would continue to demand transparency and advocate policies addressing poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment in the state.

He said that Bayelsa residents deserve accountable governance, improved public services and inclusive development.
