The African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has broken his silence on the brutal attack on him in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Sowore recounted how thugs pounced on him and beat him mercilessly.

According to him, the attack happened in broad daylight at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti where he had gone to meet with some of his supporters.

“They beat me like a criminal. They came from nowhere, about 20 of them, armed with sticks and bottles. They said they will kill me if I come to Ekiti again,” Sowore said.

He said the attackers were captured on CCTV but alleged that the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have seized the footage to cover up the incident.

Sowore said he sustained injuries on his face and body and had to be rushed to a hospital for treatment.

He accused the Ekiti State government of sponsoring the attack to silence opposition voices in the state, an allegation the state government has not yet responded to.

The activist said despite the attack, he will not be intimidated and will continue to fight for justice and democracy in Nigeria.

“I am not afraid. They can beat me, they can arrest me, but they cannot stop me from speaking the truth,” he added.

The attack on Sowore has continued to generate reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the incident and calling for the arrest of the perpetrators.
