The Flamingos have soared into history, drubbing the revered Samba queens of Brazil 3-1 to reach a first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final!
It was pure magic in Morocco on Wednesday!
At the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale, our girls turned on the style and showed Brazil why Nigerian football is not to be toyed with.
After a tense first half, the floodgates opened!
Queen Joseph set the party rolling in the 56th minute with a brilliant opener that sent Nigerian fans into delirium.
Then came the Bashiru show! Super-sub Awawu Bashiru took over, smashing in two stunning goals in the 71st and 80th minutes to make it 3-0 and leave the Brazilians chasing shadows!
Brazil managed a late consolation through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, but it was too little, too late. The Flamingos stood tall, stood proud, and secured one of the biggest wins in our women’s football history!
This is unprecedented! From bronze in India in 2022 to finalists in Morocco in 2026 — these girls have rewritten the history books.
And what a journey it has been! The Flamingos had already announced themselves by beating defending champions DPR Korea 3-1 in the group stage, dumping Mexico 2-1 in the Round of 16, and edging Venezuela 1-0 in the quarter-final. Now, they have knocked out mighty Brazil!
The Samba dance has been stopped. The Naija dance has begun!
Next up: The grand finale! Nigeria will face Japan on November 7 after the Asian side beat DPR Korea on penalties in the other semi-final.
One more win, girls! One more win to become the first Nigerian team ever to lift the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup!
Flamingos to the world! Nigeria on fire!
