Mubarak Ahmad-Gumi, son of Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has announced his intention to contest for a seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 2027.
Ahmad-Gumi said he will run on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent the Doka/Gabasawa constituency, explaining that his decision followed appeals from residents of the district who urged him to enter the race.
Currently serving as a legislative aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, he said his experience within the legislature has prepared him for lawmaking responsibilities.
“My legislative experience has given me firsthand insight into how laws are shaped, how policies impact citizens, and how vital effective representation is,” he stated.
On his shift from social media advocacy to frontline politics, Ahmad-Gumi stressed the need to channel Nigeria’s youthful demographic strength into data-driven governance and technological innovation.
“Young Nigerians today are technologically skilled, innovative, and globally connected. We understand entrepreneurship and modern problem-solving. If we truly want change, we must move beyond online discussions to active political participation,” he said.
He added that accountability and accessibility would underpin his representation if elected, noting that his ambition is rooted in service, active listening, and ensuring constituents’ concerns are reflected in legislative decisions.
Describing the country’s political landscape as a “generational crossroads,” Ahmad-Gumi called for leadership that blends experience with youthful energy.
He likened youth participation to a gradual process of renewal rather than confrontation, noting that steady engagement would naturally lead to balanced representation.
He stressed that Nigeria’s progress depends on collective responsibility that transcends religious and ethnic divisions, adding that politics should not be left in the hands of a few but embraced as a shared civic duty.
Ahmad-Gumi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems with a minor in Public Administration from the University of Sharjah in the UAE.
He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Analysis and Statistics at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
