The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced that the former Governor of Kano State, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will officially defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and formally register with the party on Monday, 30th March, 2026.

Recall that Kwankwaso, on Saturday, visited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at his residence in Abuja.

Confirming the meeting, Atiku, in a post via his Facebook page, disclosed that they had robust discussions on the state of the nation.

He wrote, “This evening, I received the former Governor of Kano State and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation.”

Prior to Saturday’s meeting with Atiku, Kwankwaso, on Thursday, held a closed-door meeting with the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, in Abuja.

As previously reported by Naija News, the Kwankwasiyya Movement had earlier confirmed that the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party and its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is currently in talks with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The movement’s Spokesperson II, Mansur Kurugu, disclosed this in an interview on Monday, noting that discussions among key political figures were progressing steadily.

Kurugu explained that while negotiations had reached an advanced stage, no consensus had been reached on the political platform the leaders would eventually adopt.
