Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’s crack investigative team have arrested a suspect identified as Ifechukwu Dennis in connection with a viral Fake Tinubu AI Voice recording that allegedly impersonated President Bola Tinubu and was circulated to members of the public.

According to information made available to journalists, Dennis was arrested in Benin City, Edo State, following investigations into the origin of the controversial audio message.

Sources familiar with the investigation alleged that the suspect created the fake voice recording and distributed it to unsuspecting individuals as though it originated from President Tinubu.

The development follows growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence tools to generate realistic audio clips capable of mimicking the voices of public figures.

Investigators reportedly tracked the source of the recording after a technology expert conducted a digital analysis of the audio and traced its origin.

The analysis allegedly identified Dennis as the suspected mastermind behind the viral message, leading to his arrest by police operatives.

A significant aspect of the case is the increasing use of AI-generated content in misinformation campaigns, a trend that has raised concerns among security agencies and technology experts worldwide.

Sources said the suspect is currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to determine the full extent of the operation and identify any possible accomplices.

The Nigeria Police Force is expected to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the findings of the preliminary investigation.

While authorities have yet to release full details, the arrest is being viewed as a major breakthrough in efforts to combat digital impersonation, misinformation and cyber-enabled deception.

The Fake Tinubu AI Voice case has attracted widespread attention due to the growing sophistication of artificial intelligence technology and its potential misuse in spreading false information.

Security experts have repeatedly warned that AI-generated audio and video content can be used to manipulate public opinion, damage reputations and facilitate fraud if left unchecked.

Further details are expected once the police conclude initial investigations and formally brief the public on the matter.
