The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies as 100 residents benefited from Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP)’s mobility programme.

Ooni gave the commendation on Tuesday at his Palace during the unveiling of the National Mobility Programme of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in Ile-Ife.

The programme enabled the beneficiaries to acquire locally assembled tricycles through consumer credit, with structured repayments over an agreed period before eventual full ownership.

Oba Ogunwusi said that Tinubu was determined to end poverty and strengthen Nigeria’s micro-economy through policies and programmes supporting ordinary Nigerians, youths and small business operators.

He explained that the administration’s economic policies were already yielding positive results, urging Nigerians to support government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening national industrialisation.

The traditional ruler added that affordable consumer credit would enable beneficiaries to improve their livelihoods through commercial transportation, while gradually repaying and eventually becoming owners of the tricycles.

Earlier, the Managing Director, CREDICORP, Mr Uzoma Nwagba, said that the National Mobility Programme targets the distribution of at least 10,000 locally assembled vehicles nationwide.

Nwagba expressed that the beneficiaries could acquire cars, tricycles and motorcycles without saving for years, while making structured repayments from earnings within 18 to 24 months.

He added that the corporation had reached about 301,000 beneficiaries nationwide, adding that nearly six million Nigerians were seeking access to consumer credit.

Also, the Executive Director, Operation CREDICORP, Mrs Olanike Kolawole, said that the corporation had provided over N47 billion in credit to more than 300,000 Nigerians.

Kolawole stated that the scheme sought to help Nigerians acquire productive assets, improve businesses, increase incomes and achieve greater economic independence through responsible consumer borrowing.

Mr Lawrence Sunday, who spoke on behalf of beneficiaries, thanked the President, the Ooni and CREDICORP, promising to use the tricycle judiciously and remain committed to the repayment arrangement.
