Unilever Nigeria, one of the leading fast-moving consumer goods companies in Nigeria, has announced the award of scholarships to children of its employees, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting education and creating opportunities for young Nigerians.
Established over 30 years ago, the Unilever Nigeria Scholarship Scheme provides merit-based scholarships to academically high-performing children of the company’s non-management employees, supporting them through their secondary school education.
The students participated in the competitive scholarship aptitude examination administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) across Unilever Nigeria’s manufacturing sites in Agbara and Oregun. Each scholarship begins from Junior Secondary School and renewable through Senior Secondary School Year Three (SSS3), subject to satisfactory academic performance.
As a merit-based scheme, new applicants must rank among the top 25 candidates and attain a minimum score of 50% in the aptitude test. Existing awardees are required to maintain a minimum 50% average score in their final examinations and obtain at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, in a recognised secondary school final examination on their first attempt.
Speaking on the scholarship scheme, the Human Relations Director of Unilever Nigeria, Michael Duah, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to the well-being of its employees and their families.
Duah noted that, for over three decades, the Unilever Nigeria Scholarship Scheme has supported the children of employees while recognising and rewarding academic excellence. He said, “Education is a powerful catalyst for progress—opening doors, expanding possibilities and empowering young people with the foundation to shape a brighter future. Through this enduring commitment, we are investing in the potential and aspirations of the next generation of Nigerian leaders.”
