Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in the state.
Aiyedatiwa, at the inauguration of the council alongside its directorates and subcommittees on Saturday in Akure, explained that the target was to deliver one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The governor, also the chairman of the council, charged members to close ranks and embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation to ensure Tinubu’s re-election.
“Unity and collective responsibility remains critical to our party’s success because APC’s numerical strength alone will not guarantee electoral victory.
“As large or as big as we are, if we are not together, it will be difficult to win the election. That is why it’s very, very important that we must remain united.
“Party members should avoid internal divisions capable of undermining the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
“The achievements of Tinubu’s administration and his government’s developmental programmes will form the basis of the party’s campaigns.
“Regular payment of workers’ salaries, road construction, educational support, healthcare development, and infrastructure provision are among the president’s achievements,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa also defended Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy, saying the policy had created opportunities for increased investment in critical infrastructure.
Earlier, Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Dr Pius Akinyelure, expressed optimism that the party would surpass the one-million-vote target.
“We shall win and win convincingly. We shall make more than a million votes that we are now talking about. God will be with us all,” he said.
Also, the state APC chairman, Mr. Kolawole Babatunde, said the party would embark on issue-based campaigns centered on the achievements of the federal and state governments.
Babatunde said Aiyedatiwa’s administration had completed more than 50 road projects, while over 50 others were ongoing across the state.
The chairman urged members of the campaign committees to engage residents at the grassroots and ensure widespread participation in the electoral process.
An APC chieftain, Mr Olusola Oke, said Tinubu deserved another term, citing federal appointments, road infrastructure, and the ongoing coastal highway project as some of the benefits accruing to Ondo State.
The Director-General of the Campaign Council, Mr Victor Olabimtan, commended Aiyedatiwa for his leadership and commitment to the party’s success.
He pledged to fully justify his position in the council and ensure massive votes for Tinubu in the 2027 General Elections.
