EFCC charges Mercy Chinwo’s ex- manager for alleged theft of $443, 371k USD

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a three-count charge against Ezekiel Onyedikachuwu Thankgod, popularly known as Eezee Global, over the alleged theft of $443,371 belonging to gospel artistes Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo (Judikay).

Thankgod, the former manager of Chinwo and head of Eezee Global Concepts Limited, is being prosecuted alongside his company before the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, in a charge marked ID/25810c/25, is filed before the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos.

The charge signed by the trio of Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN); Bilikisu Buhari-Bala and Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, alleged that the defendants had stolen the above mentioned sum belonging to the due of Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo.

Though, no date has been fixed for the arraignment of the defendant.

The informations in the charge read”That you Ezekiel Onyedikachuwu Thankgod and Eezee Global Concepts Limited sometime in 2023 in Lagos within the jurisdiction, dishonestly took the sum of $112, 985 ( One Hundred and Twelve Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty-Five USD) property of Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo.

“That you Ezekiel Onyedikachuwu Thankgod and Eezee Global Concepts Limited sometime in 2023 in Lagos within the jurisdiction, dishonestly took the sum of $260, 494 (two Hundred and Sixty Thousand Four Hundred and Four USD) property of Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo.

“That you Ezekiel Onyedikachuwu Thankgod and Eezee Global Concepts Limited sometime in 2023 in Lagos within the Jurisdiction, dishonestly took the sum of $69, 892 (Sixty Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety Two USD) property of Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo.”

The alleged offences according to the EFCC contravened sections 280 (1) (a) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

It would be recall that  Eezee Tee,is currently facing another criminal charge of money laundering before preferred against him by the EFCC, before a Federal High Court, Lagos.

In the charge before the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke the music promoter is facing a seven-count charge bordering on alleged foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering involving $397,106 (Three Hundred and Ninety-Seven Thousand, One Hundred and Six United States Dollars).

ThankGod and his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited, were arraigned on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

He was previously arraigned before Justice Owoeye at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, before it was reassigned to Justice Aneke.

His trial before Justice Aneke has been fixed for September 26, 2025.

One of the counts against him, reads: “That you, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod and Eezee Global Concepts Limited, sometime in June 2023 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, not being an authorised buyer of foreign exchange currency appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria under Section 5(1) of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act CAP F34 LFN 2004, negotiated a foreign exchange transaction, to wit: the Naira equivalent of the sum of $52,895.00 (Fifty-Two Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Five USD) with Mr Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 5 and 29(1)(c) of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act Cap F34 LFN 2004 and punishable under Section 29(2) of the same Act.”
