National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Ajibola Basiru, has expressed a deep shock over the demise of the historian, Professor AbdulGafar Siyan Oyeweso.
In a condolence message, Dr Basiru said the death of the great academic is too sudden to be imagined, not at a time when he was doing great for the Progressive administration in the Country.
“It’s still like a dream, seems far from a reality that Professor Oyeweso could be reported to have died like that. His belief in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu was unshaken. There was no premonition of his death. But as humans, our existence is just fleeting, and as Muslims, we believe Allaah who gives at will, takes at will.”
The National Secretary of APC described the deceased egghead as an academic colossus whose passing is a colossal loss to the academic society. Basiru said the contributions of Professor Oyeweso to the educational development of the Nigerian society cannot be wished away, a man of Letters who gave his all to developing youths across the nation’s Ivory Towers and particularly, the development of Osun State University.
Dr Basiru remarked that the demise of Professor Siyan Oyeweso came on the heels of the death of Oba Gboyega Famodun, for which the Progressives are still reveling.
“I condole with the Progressive’s family, his immediate and remote family, and the people of Ede, his hometown, and pray Allaah to uphold his family.”
Professor Siyan Oyeweso was the President, Historical Society of Nigeria, the Dean, College of Humanities, Osun State University, Executive Director, Centre for Black Culture International Understanding, and Pro-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, among other illustrious positions he held.
