In commemoration of the International Children’s Day 2025, Airtel Nigeria has once again reaffirmed its commitment to education, community, and the future of Nigeria’s children by stepping into classrooms not as a network provider but as mentors and teachers.

The event, which took place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, had more than 50 Airtel employees temporarily exchange their desks and computers for chalkboards in a nationwide classroom takeover at Airtel’s adopted public primary schools in Lagos, Cross River, Kaduna and Kwara State simultaneously.

The initiative, themed “Airtel in the Classroom: Building a Legacy of Learning”, aimed to ignite curiosity, confidence, and dreams in over 7,000 pupils in underserved communities. Executed under Airtel’s Access to Education CSR pillar and via the Airtel Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS), the project was more than a symbolic gesture as it was also a transformational moment in classrooms.

Airtel staff volunteers led interactive lessons in core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. They hosted engaging quiz competitions, celebrated top-performing pupils with branded “Airtel Learning Kits,” and facilitated a creative Dream Wall activity, encouraging children to express their future aspirations.

The initiative not only impacted students but also rekindled pride in local educators and further deepened Airtel’s relationship with its host communities. This immersive experience also enabled the staff to conduct on ground needs assessments in preparation for future school renovations.

Commenting on the initiative, Director of Corporate Communications and CSR, Airtel Nigeria, Femi Adeniran emphasised the emotional and social importance of the engagement, describing it as a defining moment for both the children and the Airtel staff involved.

“This is not just a CSR initiative; it’s a deeply personal mission for us at Airtel. Today, we did not just wear our branded shirts; we wore the trust of these children. We didn’t just visit, we taught, we listened, we connected. Many of these children have never had someone from the corporate world enter their classroom, much less speak words of encouragement into their lives. We want every child to know: you are seen, you are valued, and your dreams matter,” He said.

At Airtel, we believe education is not a privilege, it’s a promise that must be delivered to the next generation. A promise to show up, to invest in young minds, and to help bridge the gap between potential and possibility. What happened today is a legacy moment, one that plants seeds of hope and belief in the next generation. We’re not just building a smarter Nigeria,” Adeniran added.

This year’s Children’s Day celebration not only highlighted the transformative power of education but also demonstrated Airtel’s enduring commitment to national development, inclusion, and meaningful employee engagement.
