The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged all Ndigbo across Nigeria who were eligible to participate in the ongoing voter registration and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, made the call in a statement on Saturday in Enugu.
Chukwu noted that voter registration and active participation in the democratic process remained fundamental civic responsibilities and constitutional rights of every Nigerian citizen.
The national publicity secretary emphasized that the strength of democracy lies in the active involvement of the people through the electoral process.
He, therefore, urged all Igbo sons and daughters, particularly the youth, women, professionals, traders, students, and community leaders, not to treat the exercise with indifference.
According to him, those eligible are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to register and secure their PVCs ahead of future elections in the country.
He explained that political inclusion, equity, justice, and fair representation can only be strengthened when citizens actively participate in the democratic process.
He stressed that Ndigbo must continue to play a visible and strategic role in shaping the political future of Nigeria.
Chukwu further stated that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the its President-General, Sen. John Mbata, remained committed to the promotion of peace, unity, good governance, justice and equity.
“Ohanaeze is also committed to the protection of the political and socio-economic interests of Ndigbo within the framework of a united and progressive Nigeria.
He also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the voter registration process remained transparent, accessible, and free from discrimination or unnecessary bottlenecks across the country.
