Moments after a Federal High Court ordered his remand at Kuje Correctional Centre, activist and AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore went live on Instagram with a defiant message.

“Imagine people that had been in terrorist captivity for months now. Sending me to Kuje prison now feels like a vacation,” Sowore said, speaking calmly as he waited to be taken into custody.

He urged supporters not to panic or take any action on his behalf that he wouldn’t approve of. “Please, nobody should feel bad for me or do something I won’t be proud of,” he said.

Sowore then turned his fire on President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of interfering with the judiciary ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Tinubu wants to do everything that’ll make him rig the 2027 election in a way that nobody will know he’s rigging. That’s why he’s buying houses and cars for judges. He has embedded the justice of our court within the executive branch,” Sowore alleged during the live broadcast.

The activist was remanded on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar after the judge dismissed his application asking the court to recuse itself. Sowore is facing charges filed by the Department of State Services over comments in which he allegedly referred to President Tinubu as a criminal; an allegation he denies.

He represented himself in court after his legal team withdrew from the case, citing hostility from the bench.

Sowore is expected to remain in Kuje until Wednesday when the case comes up again.
