Do buh v Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced.
Hasan was convicted of killing 13 unarmed US soldiers in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.
The Pentagon said the execution will be public. “We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public. Because people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Hegseth told Real America’s Voice on Thursday.
He added that Hasan “is gonna get a firing squad of soldiers. As it should be.”
According to the Army Secretary, the execution is scheduled for Fort Hood, marking what would be the first US military execution in over 60 years and the first by firing squad since World War II.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Hegseth recommended the execution, and President Trump approved it. Under military law, such execution requires presidential approval and appellate review.
Hasan, an Army psychiatrist from Virginia, killed 13 and wounded others on November 5, 2009 inside a crowded medical building where soldiers were preparing for deployment. It remains the deadliest non-combat attack on a US base.
During his 2013 court-martial, Hasan admitted responsibility, saying he believed he was protecting Muslims and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The US has not carried out a military execution since 1961 when an Army private was hanged for raping an 11-year-old Austrian girl. The last firing squad execution was in January 1945 when deserter Eddie Slovik was shot.
